Inaugural General Meeting - 2006
70 Members and their guests attended the Inaugural General Meeting at the Leiden Law Faculty building on 27 September. After drinks at the bar, the short formal meeting confirmed the appointment of the first Officers of the Society, Lon de Jong, President, Alison Fisher, Secretary, Tony Banton, Treasurer and Adam Cohen, Events Coordinator. In addition, three new Committee Members were welcomed and unanimously adopted. We thank John Baker, Simon Barton and Peter Loader for accepting a role in our development.

The rest of the evening was spent making new friends over dinner and coffee. Lon gave us an interesting background to our location, explaining that without it we wouldn't have electrons and setting out interesting aspects of the career of Kamerlingh Onnes, who ran the building when it opened in the 19th Century at the start of it's initial career as a Physics Research Centre - before the lawyers took over.

By 10pm we were all convinced that The Oxford and Cambridge Society of the Netherlands had been duly inaugurated as we reluctantly left to await the next event.
